CIGE Program Coordinator’s Message to Students

Dear Namseoul University students:
Courses in International General Education (CIGE) are content courses instructed in English by the university’s international faculty and open to both Korean students and international exchange students attending NSU. CIGE offers students not only the opportunity to learn about topics in a variety of academic disciplines that may interest them, but also the chance to improve their English communication skills in the process. CIGE courses are taught a group of talented and knowledgeable faculty members, all of whom are professors that are dedicated to your success and happiness—during your time as a Namseoul University student and beyond!
If you are hesitant about taking CIGE because you are afraid that your English skills are “not good enough” or think that the classes may be “too hard,” I want to put those fears to rest immediately. Regardless of your English proficiency level, CIGE professors will assist you in getting the most out of your experience in their respective courses. I do not want to say that courses will be “easy,” but they are not necessarily “hard” either … and certainly not boring! I believe that you will leave every CIGE class with a smile on your face and positive feeling in your heart. That is my promise to you.
The first CIGE classes were offered in 2016, so CIGE is still a relatively young program at NSU. As the Director of Undergraduate Programs, it is my goal to make the CIGE program grow in the months and years to come, but I cannot do that without your help. Our success is dependent upon your participation in CIGE, so I ask you to please join me to help make the CIGE program blossom on our campus. In short, you, the students of Namseoul University, are the heart of the CIGE program.

사랑하는 남서울대학교 학생들에게
CIGE (국제교양과정)은 본교의 외국인 교수진이 영어로 진행하는 수업으로 남서울대학교에 재학중인 학생과 유학생 모두에게 열려 있습니다. 학생들에게 다양한 분야를 공부할 수 있는 기회를 제공할 뿐만 아니라 영어 의사 소통 능력을 향상 시킬 수 있는 기회를 제공합니다. 이 과정은 학생들의 성공과 행복에 관심 있고, 재능과 지식이 풍부한 교수진과 함께 합니다.
혹시 영어 실력에 자신이 없어서 CIGE 수강을 주저하고 있는 학생들이 있다면 걱정하지 마십시오. 우리 교수진은 영어 실력에 상관없이 각 과정에서 자신의 경험을 최대한 활용할 수 있도록 도와 줄 것입니다. 반드시 힘들기만 한 과정이 아닙니다. 모든 수업이 여러분들에게 긍정적인 느낌으로 다가갈 것이라고 믿고, 제가 여러분께 할 수 있는 약속이기도 합니다.
CIGE는 2016년 시작되었습니다. 아직 그 역사가 짧은 편입니다. CIGE 총괄 책임 교수로서 앞으로 프로그램을 성장시키는 것이 저의 목표입니다. 하지만 이러한 저의 목표는 여러분의 참여에 달려 있습니다. 남서울대학교의 학생들이 CIGE의 핵심입니다.
